HVAC in Greater Phoenix: what local homeowners should know

Extreme heat is a safety issue

Phoenix often sees more than 100 days a year at or above 100°F, and summer nights can stay above 90°F. When an AC fails in July, it can be a health emergency, especially for older adults and young children. If someone is in danger from heat, call 911 first.

Rooftop units and dust

Many Valley homes use rooftop package units or heat pumps that sit in the sun and collect monsoon dust. Dirty coils and filters cut efficiency, so regular maintenance matters more here than in milder climates.

Monsoon storms

Monsoon season brings dust storms, lightning and power surges that can damage capacitors, contactors and control boards. A licensed contractor can check a unit after a storm.

Utility rebates

APS and SRP have offered rebates for qualifying high-efficiency equipment and heat pumps. Programs change, so ask your contractor what is currently available.

Who we work with

  • Licensed: a current Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) license, classification R-39 (residential) or CR-39 (dual), checked on the state’s public lookup.
  • Insured: a current certificate of general liability insurance on file.
  • Reputation checked: public reviews and complaint history reviewed before approval.
  • Written estimates: partners agree to give written estimates and pull permits where required.

In Arizona, residential HVAC work requires a Registrar of Contractors license with an R-39 (residential air conditioning and refrigeration) or CR-39 (dual) classification. You can look up any contractor on the ROC website. Vetting reduces risk but is not a guarantee. Verify a license.

We match homeowners across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Avondale and Queen Creek, and nearby communities.

Frequently asked questions

Is Phoenix HVAC Match an HVAC company?

No. Phoenix HVAC Match is a referral service. We match your request with one independent, licensed and insured HVAC contractor who serves your ZIP code. That contractor gives you the estimate, does the work and is responsible for it.

Is it free for homeowners?

Yes. Homeowners never pay us. Participating contractors pay us a disclosed flat referral fee for each request we send them. The fee is the same no matter which contractor you get or whether you hire them.

How many contractors get my information?

One. Each request goes to a single matched contractor chosen by fair rotation among vetted contractors who cover your ZIP code and service type. If that contractor cannot help, we may, with your okay, match you with one other contractor instead.

How are contractors chosen?

We use a fair rotation among approved contractors who cover your ZIP and the service you need. Contractors cannot pay extra to jump the line. Every contractor must hold a current Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) license, classification R-39 (residential) or CR-39 (dual) and carry general liability insurance.

Do Phoenix HVAC contractors need a license?

Yes. Arizona requires residential HVAC contractors to hold a Registrar of Contractors license with an R-39 or CR-39 classification. Every contractor we work with must give us a current ROC license number, which we check on the ROC website before they receive any request.

Do you sell my information?

We share your request with the one contractor we match you with, which is how the service works, and that contractor pays us a referral fee. We do not sell your information to data brokers or share it with other contractors for their marketing. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Am I obligated to hire the contractor?

No. Get an estimate, ask questions and decide on your own. You can verify the contractor’s license yourself at https://roc.az.gov/.
